Derek Lacey

I was so saddened by the death of Derek Lacey this week. Derek was an iconic figure in the world of Carlisle United where he provided match commentary for BBC Radio Cumbria. He was a truly unique talent maybe not so much in his commentary skills but more for his obvious love of life and passion for the Cumbrians.

I met and worked with Derek during our nursing days and a more kind and compassionate man you would struggle to find.

He will be sorely missed.

Expenses: the never ending story

After his 'ello 'ello gaff the other day Tory leader David Cameron has repaid the £1000 in expenses he 'mistakenly' claimed and vowed to 'get to the bottom of the matter'. Oh good thanks Dave

Also Hazel Blears the MP for Salford could get the chop tonight as she faces her constituency members after her antics the day before the local elections.
The Salford Labour Party must do what they feel is right but I must admit that I would be sharpening my little chopper if I was in the room.

TMS

One of the great joys of summer is listening to Test Match Special on the radio. I've been listening to it since my school days with a tiny transistor radio and an ear piece hidden under my 60s style long hair. It seemed idyllic somehow with Cowdry and Trueman playing out so many dramas described in exquisite detail by John Arlott. Watch the lovely Michael Apted 1982 film 'Yang 'P'tang Kipperbang' which catches the moment so well.
Even though I have Sky and enjoy the TV coverage somehow cricket on the radio seems as right as Marmite and toast.

Elections

European Election results were predictable. Proportional Representation has resulted in stay at home Labour voters letting in the BNP who actually got less votes than last time. The MP expenses saga has cost us and the country dear

Elections

Well I did actually go out to vote in the end. It was a vote for the Labour Party not for the self serving idiots who done so much to ruin it.
