I've no doubt that Nick Griffin should have appeared on Question Time. He has a mandate from nearly 1m people who voted for the BNP in June. The problem with the Question Time format is that it deals in sound bites not real analysis. Although Griffin got the arse kicking he deserved we learned nothing about the BNP that we didn't already know. Griffin complained afterwards that he had been set up by the BBC with a biased studio audience. This is patently not true. The BBC had invited applicants who had applied many weeks before, who had no idea who the guests would be. Griffin claimed that this was just another example of a left wing conspiracy against the BNP.
The reality is that this was a typical group of fair minded people who were appalled by what they heard.
